About FAIR
The Flanders AI Research Program (FAIR) brings together leading AI researchers from Flemish universities and research centres to advance groundbreaking AI research and translate it into real-world impact. Through collaborative research, use cases, demonstrators, enrichment projects, datasets, toolboxes and publications, FAIR helps accelerate the successful adoption of AI in Flanders. Our mission is to create meaningful impact on people, industry, society and planet while strengthening the AI ecosystem through collaboration between researchers, companies, governments and other stakeholders.
Research
FAIR's research addresses some of the most important challenges in artificial intelligence through a unique combination of strategic basic research and real-world applications. Our work is organized around two Grand Challenges — AI-driven Data Science and Situated AI — and advances key topics such as trustworthy, human-centered, resource-efficient and high-performance AI. To ensure research remains relevant and impactful, FAIR validates new methods through use cases in four domains: Health, Industry, Society, and Planet & Energy. This combination of long-term research ambitions and practical applications enables FAIR to develop AI technologies that address real challenges while advancing the international state of the art.
Impact & Adoption
FAIR creates impact by translating AI research into scientific advances, innovation opportunities and real-world applications. Through use cases, enrichment projects, industry collaborations, public funding initiatives and entrepreneurship, FAIR helps transform research results into value for people, society, industry and the broader AI ecosystem.
